ported vette' heads vs. aftrmrkt heads?
which would be better for my 89 350 tpi? what do you think would have more torque? Where would the power band be? I was thinkin about lingenfelter heads but they cost mucho $$$, so i figured why not use the alum. ones from the vette'. Thanx

I'm going to give you an answer and try and avoid writing a novel. Sorry if its too long...
The heads/cam/intake all have to be a matched combo. Due to the TPI intake you are limited to a power range of under 5000rpm. With that in mind, if you plan to keep the tuned port injection then you should also consider that you will have to keep it smog legal, and using aluminum Vette heads will require you to do a few things to go along with them. This includes getting the Vette lower intake manifold with the EGR crossover provision and also a set of headers or manifolds with a EGR tube modified to accept the Vette EGR crossover.
Now as far as the rest of the combo goes you will need a cam to go along with the heads and intake. I would recommend a GM ZZ3 or ZZ4. However remember that if you're going to use them you will need a new set of valvesprings int he heads to go along with them and the machine work done for the new springs to fit.
I would say be prepared for all of this to cost you in the neighborhood of $1200-1500 if you do most of the work yourself.
I estimate around 350hp with that setup.

i have ported L98 vette heads on my 305 TPI. The exhaust ports flow very well, but the intake ports are pretty limiting. Some people have gone as far as 10 sec. 1/4 miles marks by using aluminum l98 heads believe it or not. If i were you id go the best way and get a set of AFR heads, best bang for the buck.
LPE heads are more than just a pair of aluminum heads. Totaly different valves and what not. Also it is flow matched so that each port dumps out the same amount of air. Once they get the calibration right they program it onto the computer and the CNC machine produces each head to the exact specs. Talk to them because it may be set up for a certain cam or intake combination.
