I read an artical in car craft or something of that sort about all these plug wires that keep getting bigger and bigger, the final test result was that a basically stock 7mm core worked better than the 8.8 or 9mm core because of the amount of resistance within the core because of its diameter, but if using a nice coil that doesnt have problem supporting the bigger cores it can be found the 8mm wires might work a little better.

The larger the diameter of the conductor (everything else being equal) the lower the resistance.
Think of it as water running in a pipe the smaller the pipe the harder the pump must work to supply the same amount of water.
