Ok, I just installed the converter and gears that are in my profile, any ideas on what I'll run on some drag radial (I get no traction on the Continentals I'm on now)? It almost seems like I may have overgeared it..
I agree that you may have over-geared it. What are your future mods planned>?? I would go with a SuperRam or MiniRam with that setup, but if you plan on keeping it mostly stock you should have went with no more than 3.42 gearing and a higher stall speed of around 2500RPM. I have stock 3.27's in the 9 bolt with a 2500RPM converter and it launches hard as hell and pulls hard all the way to my 5500 rpm shiftpoint. You are trying to take advantage of horsepower with that combo, but with a stock LR intake you should be looking to multiply torque as supplied by the stock TPI.
What are the pro's and con's of the miniram versus the superram? I eventually want to go with trick flow heads and their .500 lift cam (approx) and a custom prom, and a 150hp wet shot
Any ideas on where to go with my mods next? I'd like to gasket match and port and polish my intake and go with a 150hp wet shot. Further down the road, heads and cam are a possibilty. Any ideas are appreciated.
Was the 14.1 you ran completley stock? with all the mods in your sig with the stall and gears, expect mid to high 13's. I agree to that you over greared it. Our intake choke after 5000 usually 5500 at the most. I think the highest gear ratio compadable with a stock tpi set up would be 3:55's. Even that would be nice with an vortec intake and ported plemum
the 14.1@98mph was after just the magnaflow muffler, I know it sounds like BS but its true. I haven't run since then but I got a pair of 275/60/15 drag radials to run on soon, should offset my gears a little because they're pretty tall tires
