pilot bearing

pilot bearing

would a 85 Z28 305 5spd have a pilot bearing in the clutch, I thought all std. tannys did but theres no bearing in my new clutch and I can`t rember if the old one had it or not??? I don`t think it did but I don`t need the put everything back toger and find out it suppost to have a pilot bearing.

yup, you need a pilot bushing in there. they can be bought at any parts store. be sure to test fit and grease it before ya instal it.
if ya ever need to pull one out ither rent a pilot bushing remover or fill the hole with grease or wet paper towels. find a bolt almost the same size as the hole, put it in hte hole and hit it with a hammer. the hydrolics will pop it out.

You can buy a roller pilot bearing from Moroso or get one from a 6.3 liter diesel from a pickup truck built in the 80's. Or, you can stick with the bushing version.

IMO i would go with a standard bushing. when a bearing goes it can take the input shaft with it from what iv heard. iv been using bushings with no prob.

I always ran the bearings, never had a failure.

I was blind the 1st time I looked it`s in there and it`s the bearing type.
