Ok.. another stupid header question:
Ok.. another stupid header question:
Which one of these do I want?
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...17&prmenbr=361
500-68460 or 500-68470?
There is a y-pipe availiable for 68470, but those are shortie headers.. 68460 are mid-tube. What which ones should I get? And if i get 68460 (the mid-tubes) should I just have an exhaust shop make the Y-Pipe? BUT.. 68460 says it needs dual-exhaust only, and offers limited ground clearance. What should I do?
Sorry for all the dumb question, but I dont want to screw anything up, and end up wasting money
Thanx all,
Matt

"500-68460 Camaro, Firebird 1982-92" i don't think these are mids...i think they are standard longtubes
"500-68470 Camaro, Firebird 1982-92" these are the shorties.
you will lose a little ground clearance, as with any LT header...maybe 3/4" at most depending on the collector. and they say "Dual exhaust only" because they don't have a ypipe specifically for it.
i would just do the LTs and have a shop do the ypipe liek you mention.

Re: Ok.. another stupid header question:
You may or may not be able to keep the cat. You will want a 3in cat because headers are almost a waste if you don't put in a bigger cat too.
I don't know what your emissions laws are but in NY you have to keep it in the factory location and have the AIR hooked up. Keeping it in the factory location with long tubes is going to be a whole lot of work and may make for some restricting curves in the exhaust.
If emissions requirements don't include retention of the factory location of the cats and the AIR then it is easy to keep the cats.
LT's also kill ground clearance, look at thirdgen.org you can find pictures showing the ground clearance with LT's. I think you also have to make custom exhaust hangers and pretty much fab up the entire thing if you go LT.
Also the headers may not have provisions for the AIR so you might have to put them in if emmissions so require.
For my car I want to put on a set of hooker 2455's, a hooker catback because they have the o2 sensor hole, and provisions for the air, and hooker makes a y pipe for them. The catback I just like, 3in mandrel bent and uses all the factory mounts.

Re: Ok.. another stupid header question:
I am deff. goin w/ 3" cat, but the rest of the exhuast will be about 2.5" i am thinking. What do I do if the headers I buy do not have the O2 bung? I know you can buy them, but where would I put it? Wait.. just got a thought. If I have my Edelbrock Perfromer 600.. will I need an O2 bung? BEcause the Edelbrock is not computer controlled.. so I can just leave out the O2, right?
