With filter change it should only need 5 qts... Are you sure you're putting the dipstick all the way?

BTW - I'd drain that extra qt if I were you

Without knowing what filter he's using and if he has an aftermarket oil pan you can't tell how many quarts it will take...

You are checking the right dipstick ,and not the one for the trans, right? Unless there is an after market pan five quarts should fill it.

i am pretty sure its a stock corvette oil pan, and the filter is just a regualar filter that i bought at kmart, the same size as the stock one.....but i dunno whats up, because the dipstick goes in all the way, and then when i pull it out, there is a little bit of oil on the whole dipstick like normal, then there is more on the very bottom, like it says it needs another quart but i can't see how it can't be full by now....this is the first oil change since i bought the car, a week ago, and on the dipstick there is a line scratched in it(sayin its the full mark or something), maybe its the wrong dipstick that is supposed to be on there or something...who knows, i guess i'll wait till my old man gets home from work...

Pull your dipstick out,and take a piece of fine sandpaper ,and sand the dipstick a little, wipe it clean and then try to read it. Some dipsticks are so smooth that the oil won't cling to them.

5 quarts unless you have an aftermarket pan. I had a PF25 filter and when I changed it to a PF35, it took a little more than 5 quarts but certainly not 6 quarts. That crank will whip up excess oil into a foam and foam doesn't lubricate well.

I think I'm a comedian, but I've just realized that I'm not funny. I just wanna apologize to you guys because I know that I should be embarrassed that I act like an idiot- and it brings down the quality of the board. Instead, I like being banned from tech forums. See you on Disneytalk.com!
