Angry oil guague problems

i have ulta lite auto meter guages in my car. the oil pressure guage is going crazy. when driving around it normal like 40- 50 psi. when i come to a stop it goes down to 0 some times then sneeks to 15 psi. then when i take off it some times goes back to zero. however when i start my car it goes to 50 psi after a couple of secs. so i dunno whats going on with this guage. all help is appreciate. i am over due and will be going in for an oil change in the morning.

Thanx
Brian

I hope for you sake I am right and it is a bad sender. Take the wire off and ground it and see if it goes to max. If so, try changing the sensor and it should be ok. I had a sender reading proper pressure in a Benz and it would drop to 0 at idle. On a FORD truck, it read 0 at cold startup for 3 mins but there was pressure. Both times you would have heard clattering if it was really at 0 psi. Hope that is your case otherwise, you might need a new motor.

If you were 2 quarts short then your oil pump was probably sucking air from time to time when the oil didn't make it back to the pan fast enough. NOT a good thing. You really should check your oil once in a while.
