O2 sensor placement question...
O2 sensor placement question...
i have a set of hedman long tubes for my iroc that im having installed while the engine is out. my mechanic told me the headers were too pretty to drill a hole in, and that he'd rather wait to put the o2 sensor in after i get myself a custom y-pipe and he'd put the o2 sensor in the y-pipe instead of the headers. do you think that's wise? or should i just have him put the o2 sensor right at the end of the header? thanks guys
well you don't want to put it too far back, because the o2 sensor doesn't kick in untill 600 degrees....and the only way it gets that high is by placing it close to the headers...If it were me, i would put it in the header, y pipe i think will be too far back..IMO

if you use a heated sensor, the pipe right after the header will be fine
that is where the o2 is going when I do my LT1 swap
I would say just drill the damned thing. O2 sensors in the stock location with low backpressure systems have been known in cold weather to cycle in and out of the correct temp. Besides I really don't like it that close to the ground.
