No power steering cooler?

I just checked out my friend's 98 Tahoe with the MPFI Vortec 350. It has no PS cooler. The hoses just go straight from the pump to the steering box unlike mine which goes under the radiator and then back around. How bad is this for the PS pump when underhood temps get around 200 degrees? Also how much hp do you think it takes to pump the PS fluid through my stock cooler? I'm guessing only about 1 hp but I'm not really sure. Anyone know anything about PS pumps?

Re: No power steering cooler?

most cars dont have one at all either. they wont use any horsepower at all to pump more fluid. I think the only purpose on our cars is for longevity and durability in raceing atmospheres. I took it oiff my car( along w/the power steering pump and gear ) cause I dont need it no more! haha

seriously though, I think it is just put on there so they can write one more awesome feature for the Irocs.

Engine bay is "tighter" on a 3rd gen than any truck by quite a bit. Very little air circulation. Much more "natural" cooling on a truck.

The power steering "cooler" on a stock 3rd gen is pretty cheesy, in my opinion anyway- a single loop of metal line in front of the radiator with no cooling fins of any kind?? Puhleeeeese! Might help a little but I wouldn't turst it if you go serious road racing.
