Nitrous

I have the car in my sig. I think my best bet to go quick until I can build a nice 383 down the road is to do a decent shot of nitrous. It's a 305 TPI with approx. 46K on the rebuilt engine (according to the previous owner ). I found the NOS wet kit adjustable from 100-150hp. Will this be OK for my engine? What other supporting mods would you suggest (AFPR, etc?)? Also, any chance anybody knows if nitrous is legal in Massachusetts? A few people have said that if I get it I better pray a cop doesn't see it if I get pulled over, but I kind of doubt their knowledge of the law . Thanks

Re: Nitrous

well theres nothing illeagal about the nitrous itself, but when your using nitrous...your probably breaking atleast 2 laws, #1 YOUR SPEEDING and here in Texas chances are if your on it and a cop sees you, your doing atleast 25mph over the speed limit which would be a felony and #2 you just got caught racing, which, again here in Texas, SUCKS!

I wouldnt trust a 100 shot on a 305, but thats just me. I know they CAN handle up to 125, but then again my stock rear end was SUPPOSED to hold 400hp (i think) and i tore that up with all of about 275 flywheel hp.

Re: Nitrous

I am running a 125 shot on my 305 TBI and I have had no problems with it. I went to colder plugs and run premimium all the time but that is about it. I have an m5 so I don't know how long my tranny will hold up but I am swapping that out soon anyway along with the motor.

Wow, show me how. 125 shot and still 15 second time slips? Only colder plugs and no fuel enrichment and your motor is still alive after the first pass? Nice.

Anyways, my L98 took a 100 on a stock rotating assembly for a season before it gave out. Sprayed it from the line every time. I wouldnt go over 75 unless you plan on building that 383 some time soon. Definatly go with a wet setup. Get a nice FP like a waboro 255 or holly unit would be fine. Get the TPI system with the plate, knock off some timing, and some good gas you'll be fine. In IL you can have nitrous in the car and hooked up but you cannot use it on the street. Remember its always the cops word against yours, who wins? Go figure. You'll be best off hiding it in the spare tire well.

Re: Nitrous

I haven't updated the sig in a while. I am waiting for the weather to get warmer and the tracks to open back up. I have made 10-12 runs with the nitrous and no problem whatsoever. My car runs a little rich so that is no problem. I will be happy to show it to you anytime you want, asshat.

Re: Nitrous

I wouldn't be saying it if I wasn't doing it. I know my motor won't last forever, it already have 95k on it but I am building a 383 to go in it anyway so if the motor dies its no big deal. Not trying to mislead at all, simply stating what I have done.

Re: Nitrous

I ran a Nitrous Express LT1 Wet kit on my 89 305 TPI at the 75hp level. Went from 15.60 to 14.20 with an 8 mph increase. Plumbed the single nozzle INTO the MAF sensor on the engine side of the wire. Ran roughly 5 10lb bottles at that level until I converted to a carb setup/new plate, etc. Bumped it to the 100hp level with carb, went 13.30's spinning HARD on street tires. Roughly 18mph increase in the 1/4 also. Went to 150 shot and ran(not a typo) 35+ bottles through the combo before I pulled the engine for the new. Never hurt the engine and it runs fine to this day in another vehicle. Best of 12.801 @ 108+mph with a 1.80 60ft. Never really did a lot of tuning either, just made sure it was on the rich side. A/F could have been 10:1 for all I know.

Do what I did with the LT1 or TPI NX Wet Kit at the 75 or 100hp setting. Get all of the safety do-dads and a good digital N2O Guage. 1 Step colder plugs, or just new plugs, always 91+ octane, stock 6 degrees base timing... Have FUN!
