Newbie Questions about Tranny Accessories
Newbie Questions about Tranny Accessories
I just want to know exactly what a stall converter is/does.
My friend has a 3rd Gen camaro and wants to know what the thing that makes your car shift at higher rpms when you have an automatic is.He has a 350 TPI and just bought injectors for it and now he wants to make the tranny better/quicker. He also plans on 3.42 gears. Besides headers any other suggestions on how to make the 350 tpi fly would be appreciated!

But some small things like gutting the stock air boxes and getting an adjustable fuel pressure regulator will help.
Re: Newbie Questions about Tranny Accessories
he doesnt need bigger injectors on a stock motor thats just a waste of money. How fast you go is controlled by two factors, how much air and how much fuel you can get in and out of the motor. If you cant get more air in then what good is more fuel going to do you?
Look at a set of headers and a madrel bent 3" y-pipe. Hooker pretty much makes the best headers IMO. SLP's are good too but way too expensive.
Look on www.thirdgen.org in their tech articles section and there is an article on how to siamese and port your intake runners and base which will free up hp on the intake side, or invest in either a Holly Stealth Ram or Accel Super-Ram. There is also the TPIS mini-ram but a lot of people have had problems with that company.
To make the motor a bit better in the top end you can also upgrade the rockers to 1.6 and put better springs in.
Past that a cam is a good way to add some horsepower just make sure it runs in the powerband youre looking for. And the only thing short of replacing the block and rotating assembly is the heads. I wont go into that until you get a bit farther along.
Theres also free mods like tb coolant bypass. Dont waste your money on an airfoil and ya just check the tech articles at www.thirdgen.org
