new mod decision
new mod decision
with my tax return my baby will finally get some attention.
instead of goind with a full aftermarket intake, im going to siemese slprunners/base/plenum and put a 52mm tb on. does anyone know what real world gains are to be had from doing these mods pros/cons etc? It also has Lt1 injectors and will be tuned for extra fuel/air.
I planned on a 383 build but my bottom end is still solid and burns less than 1 quart of oil every 2+ months (leaky valve seals)

Upgrading the intake on a TPI system is probably the most sensible thing to do, as it is the biggest bottleneck in the system. Expect roughly 30hp right now, with a slight loss in torque, and a complementary increase in power if and when you do heads and cam.
The problem if you want to call it that is the Edelbrock intake manifold. It needs to be opened up as much as it can be. See the other thread. By the way my torque has increased with every mod including fully siamesing the SLP runners.
I'm now at the point that I just roast the tires in 1st and 2nd gear through my 700R4. 1st gear is useless at wot throttle or anything close to it and 2nd gear is almost as bad.

I'd say 15-20hp/TQ in the midrange and 30 Extra at the top end of the powerband which will be a bit broader. You shouldn't lose any torque anywhere. M/T ET Drag Radials would be my first mod, especially with 3.73's already! 255/50/16!! And Subframe connectors so body panels don't start moving around.
Well after reading some of the dyno results and what not, if im going to pay upwards of 800+ for the runners and tb, i suppose im going to go with a superram - i heard they are hit and miss with installation, but the hp should be worth it. what kind of gains are generaly seen on a nearly stock engine?
I have an Lt1 intake on hand, the problem is, emissions are strict as is in texas. I wont be exempt until 2009 so until then i have to maximize what i have and keep it legal. The superram is costly but worth it in the long run it seems, im not sure what it will do on a stock engine - but im sure quite better than the stock tpi. As for the dificulty in installation im not worried there, it was made to work with some patience, if it is defective ill just send it right back, but im sure with a bit of time it will bolt right up if im careful.
a lt1 intake conversion requires blocking off some egr ports on the manifold that the l98 does not have and lacks the ability to retrofit to the l98 egr connections if i remember right...the superram is just a runner/plenum setup that will hook up to all stock emissions and other stock equipment, plus i figure it will act a little more civil with a superram than a lt1 intake - i like the torque of the l98 and think the short runner lt1 will eat up a bit more than the superram.
Summit claims 20 H.P. over stock. I have the SLP runners
