Needing to take the whole dash apart..

Re: Needing to take the whole dash apart..
take off the top dash pad first, CAREFULLY. these are very fragile and will break really easy. they dont have any bend in them and if you bend them a little they will shatter, so just do that very carefully. then pull your sterring wheel all the way down and pop off the pannel around the gauge cluster. there is a couple of screws you need to undo to take out the cluster. when the bolts are un done slide the cluster forward and work it out, this will take a little bit of time cause it is made to fit in perfect. pull the kick pannel off under the steering wheel by undoing the crews from the bottom. take out radio and ac controlls and center counsole. remove glove box too.
now the tricky part, the dash itself has alot of wires and brackets screwed to it, go through and un do all of the visual ones first. there is a coupld under neath it and a couple on top of it. you have to un screw the fuse pannel and the head light controll boxes. after you remove the screws you can see start removing it and keep looking for screws and wires that are still attached and just un do them as you go along.
now to take out the a/c duct, its not that easy either. there is a couple of screws on the fire wall behind the engine, im assuming that you already have it out anyways. but pull them screws out. once the dash is out it is easier to remove this.
just take your time and you will get it and just remember, BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE DASH PAD.

Re: Needing to take the whole dash apart..
The speedo has a cable attached to it. The hard part comes next, you need the reach behind the cluster and push in on a ring that's attached to the end of the cable and pull the cluster forward at the same time. Be prepared to get minor cuts on your hands because it's a tight fit and there are a lot sharp parts. I did it once, not looking forward to doing it again.
Good Luck

That speedo cable clip is a BE-YOTCH!!!!! The Haynes manual is also of no help. But, rest assured, after the first time, you know the technique and it gets easier.
