Need to upgrade Chasis - Need suggestions
Need to upgrade Chasis - Need suggestions
Now that I have plenty of HP, I need to get some traction, suspension and some stopping power. The chasis of my 86 Z28 hasn't been touched and drastically needs some attention. Of course I am going to need SFC's, traction bars, sway bars and eventually bigger brakes and rotors.
I welcome any suggestions or advice about working up a third gen's suspension, traction, brakes, etc.
What should I do first/Last? What products should I buy and from what manufacturers? What order should i do all of the mods in??
I know this is a broad question but I am looking for some good advice and not have to learn the hard way.
Thanks in advance
Nick

Look for a set of LS1 brakes. They can usually be found for ~$300. Get some good pads (Hawks HPS) and nice rotors and you're good to go brakewise.
Look around www.Spohn.net I'd look into the following:
-Adjustable Panhard Bar
-SFC's
-Torque Arm
-LCA Relocation Brackets
-There's plenty more
An Eibach Pro-Kit would be a good investment, Sportlines if you can afford a bigger drop (i.e. I couldn't go with Sportlines bc of my T56 crossmember).
If you're into handling, a Wonderbar (www.topdownsolutions.com) and Strut Tower Brace (Edelbrock makes a nice one) would be good choices. 17" Wheels with some sticky tires (BFG KDW's
) will improve handling as well. I'm sure there's more but here's a start.

I already got me 17's and Nitto 555 R's in the back to help my launch so that area is already covered.....
First thing i am defenitely doing to do is SFC's first. Then going to go with traction bars and suspension stuff after that. Gonna leave the brakes for last.

I would say I'm running about 500 +/- HP but I have yet to put it on the dyno. The really only goal is to make it as fast and cool as I can. Of course I would like to get a faster time. Besides totally taking the engine apart and spending thousands of dollars on it, the more practical thing to do would be traction. The chasis of the car has never had anything done to it and is in desperate need of attention.

This is what I am considering so far....
1) Competition Engineering - Weld on SFC's
2) Edelbrock Strut tower brace
3) SLP Adjustable Pahnard Bar
4) SLP Lower control arms
Would any of you change/add/take away anything??

I've read these things suck. Plain and Simple. How much are they? My Jegster SFC's work great. Spohn Tubulars and Alston Racing SFC's are supposed to rock! Look into them. www.spohn.net

The rest of your list looks A-Okay to me except I don't know how much of a difference you'd get from simply getting LCA's. Maybe LCA's and Relocation brackets if you're lowering it. If you're not, I'd put the money somewhere else, like springs/struts/shocks.

The competition engineering SFC's are 85 bucks from summit, but I have heard good things about Sphoon.
I was planning on lowering the car just maybe by 1 inch to 1/2 inch while i am doing the suspension just so the car stands out a little bit more.
