Cool Need some help on headers install.........

Does anyone know of a web site that shows how to install SLP headers on a 1990 IROC-Z (its a 5.0 TPI.) Also for those who done the install themselves how long does this take. What was the most PITA part. TIA

The biggest PITA is the drivers side header by far. You will need to remove the bolt in each engine mount and possibly the nut on the transmission mount if you have an auto. Then you have to raise the motor up like 2-3" and wiggle the hell out of the header to get it in place. Get a friend to help cause it will save a ton of time.

I dont know about the SLP headers but I put on a set of sumit shorties on the same engine in an 86 ROC and that was probably the biggest pain in the butt I ever did on the car. The Driver Side is cake compared to the passenger side though especially connecting the collectors to the Y-Pipe the passenger side is a pain.

i installed my whole exhaust on my 89. i have the hedman shorties. the drivers side was relatively easy compared to the pass. side, especially if the a/c is still in the car. the project all together took me 2.5 weeks, only working on weekends and a few hours on some week nights. the ypipe and offroad pipe only took me a couple of hours to put on then i went and got them welded.

Question

Isn't the passenger side easier to go in through the bottom? Its been a while since my install so I can't remember for sure...

I installed Edelbrock TES in my -88GTA, and on the driver side I had to release the stearing. On the passenger I just took the starter down and there were no problem´s to install the headers from underneath (just whatch that temp sensor in the block)

This took me 4 days (2 days to let WD40 work with the rust on the stock bolts for original exhaust)

Well, I didn´t want to raise the motor (had nothing to raise it with) and the filter for the AC was in the way to put the header in place. So lucky me, it was no problem install them from beneath.

The Edelbrock TES came in 5 pcs, so there where no problems to install them, when U knew how to do it.

we put the heddmans on it, and ah man, i cant believe how hard it is for these cars.
and to make matters even worse, he did really see a increase at the track.
but anyways, it did take us about 3days.
(not whole days, just from like 6pm-12am)

Ok, I did my SLP headers in roughly 45 minutes, no lie. I have the same physical engine bay you do. Remove the exhaust manifolds, get everything out of the way. EVERYTHING. Zip tie it out of the way if necessary. Put them in through the top. The Passenger side was the easiest because I removed all the AIR crap. The drivers side is harder because you have to bend the brake lines out of the way. You will also be hitting the shaft that goes to the steering box. You can either put a dent in the header where it will rub or you can let it wear away the shaft until they don't touch anymore. Takes a few weeks for it to "wear in". They are really not that hard. It just takes a little twisting, contorting, and perhaps a rubber mallet. I will take pictures of mine with all the brake lines bent out of the way so you can see what I mean if you would like.

The drivers side is very very very easy. It took me less than an hour to get the drivers side manifold off and get the header on. The pass side is different story tho. I have no emmissions or AC stuff on my car and it was still hard. The very last bolt is very hard to get to. I removed the starter, flywheel covers, plugs, fan switch, and the top part of the AC box to get the header in from the top. not fun.
