Need opinions/advice...please!

In the spring I will be running a new setup. The meat of it being a BBK 58mm tb, TPiS Miniram, WP Torquer S/R heads, LT4 Hotcam w/ 1.6 rockers, and a TCI 3000 stall. Plus alot of suspension, igintion and miscellaneous things. However I am starting to think that I made the wrong choice in heads. I don't know if the WP Torquer S/R's are going to flow enough to match the intake and cam. It's only recently that this has become a concern. I know my intake and cam is a good match. The LT4 hotcam is good to 6500 rpm and I've seen dyno graphs where the Miniram is still making power at 7000 rpm. So I know they will work. But I am concerned about my heads. My goal with this buildup was to see 12's on motor. High 12's realistically, but 12's nevertheless. What do you guys think? Did I make the right choice? Am I going to be dissapointed? Should I have saved more coin and gotten the AFR 195's? Any help or opinions would be great. Thanks!

You should have gotten a little more head ( ), but with some suspension mods, you should still be able to pull 12s on that set-up without much of a problem. With nice '60s I think you could easily get there.

But your not gonna be able to just bull your way into the 12s with that set-up you cant afford to be losing hp, to chasis twist, or no traction etc. Beefing your suspension is gonna be a must.

If your stuck with them, and cant get some bigger heads, take the S/Rs and get them ported.

How big will the engine be? 350? I'm glad you've taken the heads under advisement, lol. I seen the flow numbers for the W/P 305 S/R head with it's 170cc ports. It was 200cfm flat at .400-.500 and the exhaust you don't even want to get me started on.

Do some searching for Iron heads under a grand or Alum. heads just over and you can find a lot more power with a hotcam/miniram setup. An AFR 195 being near the top of the list for a 350 or street going 383. Goodluck!

You'd probably be running 13.5's with those heads if you're lucky hehehe.

A set of 195 AFR's, which will grace the top end of my block soon, would net you a nice solid 12 second car.

Denny, why are you not at work m*ng? Up to no good I can only guess!

I need to ask ya a few things about motors and stuff. Get back with me somehow. I'm at work till 5.

Your talkin about the 305 torquerhead, he said hes just got the S/R torquers. Im pretty sure those are two different heads. While I agree if I were going to spend the money for aftermarket heads I would go a bit more radical. Ive seen countless sbc's making power enough to run 12's or even 11's with nothing more than reworked stock castings. So I see no reason he couldnt make these meet his goals if need be.

My motor is the L98 350, and the heads I have are for the sbc 350.

S/R means stock replacement

They have bigger valves for a marginal increase in airflow. The same can be accomplished on your factory castings for about $200. I'd rather do that than buy a new set of heads that are exactly the same as the ones I already have..... so I did.

I know the S/R Torquer 305's my buddy built on his '85 Iroc, flowed 200cfm @ .400" lift Intake and 170cfm @ .400" lift Exaust with an E.I. ratio of 82%...thats pretty balanced...and should have a strong throttle response..
The 350 S/R Torquers should be much better...

**I just started heavy porting of my stock #083 castings today!, MAN these things are looking GOOD!...I'm gonna have a before and after "flow benching" done; porting 2 cylinders and leaving 2 stock...
There's a major ridge under these valves, and some nice fat guide bosses to grind, 25-30HP should be a peice of cake, "bowl-porting these heads alone!...
I'd rather size my heads just a little too small than too big, I want the air to "scream" through them!... You can always make'em bigger, but you can't make'em any smaller...

I don't know whay but for some reason I am telling everyone that I have a 58mm tb, when I actually have a 52mm tb...weird? Anyway, just thought I would pass that along.
