Need to know FAST, will this exhaust work??

I think Ive found a killer deal on Ebay.

Item # 200024388597

But, like all things that sound too good to be true, I just dont trust it. Will this system work on my 82 Camaro w/305, or will I need a degree in welding and mechanical wizardry......????

300 bucks for header to tailpipe? Sounds too good....

I emailed the seller and asked if the Y pipe was included, he said 'this is a true 'dual' exhaust and there is no Y pipe. Will 'true' dual even fit under the car?

True duals can fit under the car, but you are going to have some tight clearances.

Also, true duals refers to having LONG tube headers that go straight back, but hes got shorties for sale...although the kit looks like it will work with the shorties in some way...I've tried turning my computer screen an infinite number of ways but I just cant seem to figure it all out.

I mean, it SHOULD work out because everything looks like it's there, and hes got a great feedback %, so his auction should be honest.

But there is one thing...this isnt going to be NEARLY as free flowing as a REAL true dual setup. Those headers are summit shorty headers, which are small shorties compared to hooker shorties, the primary tube diameter is 1/8" smaller and the collector exit is smaller. Not to mention that he is selling them for 102$, when you can get them from summit for 90$ with shipping. Also, that tubing diameter is stock 2.25", which isnt too impressive.

If I were you, I would look into a different setup than this budget "true dual" setup.

true duals has nothing to do with the headers. it means you have 2 pipes from the manifolds/headers all the way to the mufflers.

a single intermediate pipe into a single muffler with 2 tailpipes is not true duals.

Looks to me like he has this set up to run both pipes down the same space as the single stock pipe normally runs (no CATS). So clearence would not be as big a problem. I've seen picts. of duals run this way and it's not a bad install. The price is low but your only getting painted steel headers, so it seems reasonable to me.
If I were doing a budget 305 and didn't expect the exhaust to last 10 yrs. I would definitely concider this setup.

Thas EXACLTY what Im building, a budget 305 that I plan to keep for about 3-4 years. I figure the pipes are only 2.25 inches, but thats TWO 2.25 pipes as opposed to ONE stock pipe. Installation should keep me and my Harbor Freight welding machine busy for a couple of days. I went ahead and ordered it! Ill let you guys know how frustrated I am once I try to install it. I think Ill start soaking the header bolts weeks in advance!

buy new bolts! check out summit or jegs for locking header bolts. they are kinda expensive (mine were like $60) but they will not loosen up unless you take off the e-clip and washer. well worth the investment, before i put them in i was re-tightening header bolts every week (not exaggerating)

i know you are trying to do budget upgrades, but nothing blows a budget faster than having to pull the heads in order to get them to them machine shop to have them remove the header bolt that snapped off.

Im afraid of breaking the old ones off. Once I get them out, I plan on buying some type of locking nut/stud/clip.

Getting them out is the challenge.
