Need help really bad

Ok ive been having a clicking noise engine bay lately. I heard that if timing it off or w/e, sometimes it will make a sound like hitting 2 spoons together, so tn i decided to check it (plus i have a hypertech chip in there so it advances timing etc...so i figure let me check it out). Well i went outside to find the cable to dissconnect and i found out that the cable i had known was disconnected ( it looked like an air temp sensor cable b/c it looked the same as my v6's, so i thought nothing of it) was in fact the timing cable. So i was like "****, my timings all over the place and this could be causing the clicking thats been annoying the ever loving **** out of me". WELL i went to go connect it..and wouldnt u know it..i can NOT find anywhere for this thing to connect too...so i was hoping u guys can get some pictures of where urs connects..

1992 350 TPI engine is what i have by the way..

Here are the pictures..

Re: Need help really bad

Are you sure the cable you disconnect to do the timing is not located on the passenger side?

Re: Need help really bad

It looks similar to the oil pressure sending unit plug, espeically since it is cover in so much oil. But the car shouldnt run at all without that plugged in. Plus the wire doesnt look near long enough for that. You might also check the distributor. Theres two wires that plug into the back of the distributor. It looks somewhat like the smaller of those two. This could explain the timing issue, but then again the car shouldnt run with this unplugged also.

Your clicking noise could just be an exhaust leak. Very common and can mistaken for sound of lifters making noise......

Re: Need help really bad

The ticking is pretty bad...you can hear it clear as day with the hood open and inside the car...sounds like its coming from the heads...but then u go under the car and it sounds just as loud...

As you rev the ticking gets louder and then it falls with the rev..

All the plug has been sitting there for awhile, oil shot on it, but im almost positive is the timing cable so that u can test timing..except its not supposed to be unplugged there..in the picture in my book..it looks like its unplugged here...

After school ill put up the pictures..

thanks guys

Re: Need help really bad

that plug has nothing to do with timing, the only connector for checking/setting base timing is over near the heater case on thje pass side, it is 1 tan/black wire with a inline connector

Re: Need help really bad

By the discription, I would be checking the rockers for a bad lifter or out of adjustment rocker arm.
The connector looks to me like the IAT sensor wire. This is very hard to see as it is on the bottom side of the plenum near the back.

I checked the back of the plenum and all the wires are in..

Well the heads had been rebuild when the previous owner had it..

I let the car run with the valve cover off and everything looked fine with everything getting oil..

Re: Need help really bad

That plug either goes to the IAT sensor or the EGR solenoid. I can't really tell by the pic but if you check both of those one is bound to be missing a plug. Either way neither one would cause your noise. Sounds valvetrain related to me as well. Might try adjusting the valves per the chilton manual and see if it goes away. If not you probably have a bad lifter.

Re: Need help really bad

another problem i found... i went to pull it out(to take the valve cover off), the wire tore.. but wire looked like it was cut where it went to the intake(so it wasnt ever really attached, it was just kind of hanging there..either that or the wire ripped ridiculously clean when i pulled it. Aneway, if u plug that hole in the intake where the pvc was supposed to go..the car dies..any ideas on that too? i was so absorbed in this problem, that i 4got to ask bout that pvc thing..
