Need help with L98 buildup
Need help with L98 buildup
I really need you guys to school me on the L98. First, I apologize for my lack of knowledge with the L98. I'm hoping that those more knowledgable than I are willing to lend forth some help.
I am looking for a tried and true engine setup for an L98. I know nothing about the motor except what I've read about it's making TQ low and running out of steam in the upper RPMS. My dad is putting it in his 65 Vette, and he wants me to help him build it. I really want to do this right, as he has had that car since before I was born. I remember it sitting in the basement of our house when I was a kid, just collecting dust. Now he has finally decided to build it, and I am excited for him. I want him to do it right the first time, and he is entrusting me with some of the decisions.
First off, he is not looking for all out ***** to the wall power. I have a cc306 cam in my LT1 and he said that cam is to aggressive for what he wants. He wants to build a showcar that sounds mean, but also is not a hassle to drive to shows.
Heads: He is going to keep the stock heads and have them ported/polished.
Bottom end will be rebuilt with nothing superfancy, basically just refresh the bottom end.
Cam, like I said...he wants a cam less aggressive than mine, but aggressive enough that it sounds good. Basically, a cam that falls somwhere between and Lt4 hotcam and a cc306. (Sorry for all the ref to LT1 gen parts, but it's all I have ever worked with). So what cam for an L98 would be between those two? I'm thinking an Extreme Energy grind is the way to go?
Exhaust, going with coated longtubes, and of course true duals.
Any other suggestions on "must have" parts?
