Need help with getting right exhaust
Need help with getting right exhaust
Hello again, I got an 84 z28, L69 5.0 HO 305 4bbl, 4sp auto. I have decided on the 80 series flowmaster. I have no idea on how to go about ordering for this car. From what people have told me, the L69 has a different diameter pipe and I dont want to call up flowmaster and have them mistaken my car for a regular z28 pipe specs. Here is the link to the muffler:

If you open the PDF file, it shows the sizes and style pipes. This is where I'm lost. Can someone please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Re: Need help with getting right exhaust
Are you looking for just a muffler or a cat-back system? I don't believe Flowmaster makes a direct fit kit for the L69 cars, either muffler or cat-back.
However, Hooker makes a direct fit cat-back for the L69 cars. It comes with a 3" intermediate pipe, 3" muffler inlet, dual 2.5" outlets with quad tips. It looks very nice (muffler is black and not polished like in picture), will not rot out like a Flowmaster will, and sounds much, much better. AND, the price of the kit is only $210, as opposed to a kit from Flowmaster at $50 more, which will require fabrication. Just the Flowmaster muffler alone will require fabrication, or a "creative" weld job. Jegs has them: Hooker Aerochamber cat-back kits. You'll want part number 16822.

Re: Need help with getting right exhaust
hey thanks for the reply. i was just gonna get the cat back flowmaster. not an entire new exhaust. this cat back system that i'm looking at is specifically designed for the 3rd gen camaros/firebirds. i'm just not sure which one to get size wise and style that is on the pdf file on the link in my above post.

shouldn't be a big deal.
any reason on getting the flowmaster? sound? just curious if you have looked at the other brands.
