NEED help choosing cam for tow truck

NEED help choosing cam for tow truck

I just got a 81 chevy 1 ton 4x4 holmes 440 wrecker and the 350 is lacking power, I got a set of edelbrock performer heads and intake for it, It already has long tubes and an accell super coild hei, Just wondering what cam you guys would recommend for this tow truck?

Edelbrock has cams for their head/intake combinations. Maybe check those out, they're all pretty mild and meant to be street driven. Maybe convert it to hyd. roller? Not sure what your goal is here.

Cams...

The other guys advice on calling a cam company is good. What I can tell you is, if it's Comp Cams you're looking for, I would use either the:

XE-256 (OR) XE-262-4x4

The 256 is the straight Xe cam while the 2624x4 is the Gruntier version.

Keep the duration below at or just below 220 degrees, with a traditional split. LSA no wider than 110. Once you meet those specs, pick the cam with the most lift.
