Question Need a Complete Exhaust

Hi All,

I'd like to get a few opinions on exhaust...

The motor is in, and I have open headers. I talked to the local shop, who sells Flowmaster, and he said that he thought a 2 1/2" pipe would work (no cat) into the Flowmaster muffler, which had emptied into two, 2 1/2" tailpipes. Does this sound o.k.?

I noticed in a previous post that Sitting Bull said that 3" was o.k. unless you have 400 hp. I have over 400, so am I needing to go bigger than that?? What will actually fit reasonably under the car?

Should it go into one pipe from the headers to the muffler, then into two dinky tailpipes?

I sure could use some help on this one...

Thanks, Sweet Z~

if you want to buy aftermarket look into the mufflex system. they make 3.5" and 4" systems (not possitive of the 3.5" for the third gens).

if you plan to have the shop do it...just have a dual setup fabed up. you'll get great flow, awesome sound and it will probably be less than a standard cat back...

what kind of headers are you running? shorties or lt's???

I would look into either a 3.5" or 4" personally. True duals are not going to be cheap since there is really no space in the rear of the car. I have a friend that is running the 4" mufflex system on a 383 and it is running deep in the 12's and almost at 11's. I am going to be looking into a 3.5" for my 355 when I get it all said and done.

I ran my 383 which is rated at 450 HP by LPE and I am using the 3 in SLP exhaust with the 1 3/4 headers. I ran a few times on the strip and took it off from the cat back and noticed no change in times. This test was done with the exhaust pieces removed and placed in the car to keep the weight constant.

Well, like said with you making 400 or so horses, a 3" may work, but it'd be better to go with a 4". Better yet, go with duals. It'll sound badass and loud, might get droney inside, but I think it'll be worth it. Don't let anyone fool you, trual duals out of headers should not be too expensive at all.

Yeah, the rule of thumb is a single 3" intermediate pipe up to 400 hp and then go to 4".

Duals are OK but I don't think you'll see much, if any, gain over a single 4" pipe.

run a nice large header.........use 4" tubing....use a 2 chamber single out muffler.

for less horsepower use 3"

Question

Hi All,

Is there a way to even run dual exhaust under the car?

Also, will 4" tubing fit?

I guess the answer to both of these is presumably 'yes' since it sounds like it's been done. Laying under that car, I just cannot see how!

Thanks Again
