Need 3rd Gen Help?? Buying soon!!
Ok guys my little brother is buying a 3rd Gen Camaro in a couple of days and needs some tips on these cars. I am a 4th gen owner and know a butt load about the 4th gens but nothing about the 3rd Gen's. So my question is this do all the 305's and the 350's did they have posi or not? How much stock HP are those things supposed to be putting out? What things are good to look for with those 3rd Gen Camaro's. He only 3K to spend maybe 4K to buy the thing so his options are limited. Thanks guys....

Anything with the factory TPI engines will have a posi rear end unless its been changed or broken.
As far as cars, try and find a 350 car. Much more performance for less money spent in modding it.
Good luck trying to find anything "nice" for less than $5000 with a 350 though....

If you want a 3rd gen in great shape you would be spending about $6-7k on one. I have a VERY nice 89iroc and i would let it go for $6000 (not after my lt-1 converstion though)
They are nice cars, try hard for him to get an iroc or a gta, or a 90-92z. Those have posi in them and the 350tpi would be awsome. Tell him to become a member and we can help him out directly to him. It would be nice to have another 3gener on here.
have anymore questions (mods, problems) send an e-mail or something. Later

To me it all depends on what you want to do, Highly modded? Or slightly modded, If slightly modded is his route he needs a 350 with a Mass Air Flow Sensored, If he wants to go highly modded then he needs a Speed density sensored Camaro. Automatic or Manual makes no difference, I wouldn't worry about the rear you can either rebuild it or swap in a 4th gen rear for 200-300 and get four wheel disc brakes and 28-32 spline axles and a newer Posi unit. It may be just me but I would want something different, t-tops, Convertible, something that you don't see much. 86-92 are the good ones, anything before that is going to be a mess. I bought my 86 Last year I live in Detroit and drove to tulsa, Oklahoma, I found the car on www.autotrader.com and called the guy drove there and bought it, I only paid 2,000 for mine and it ran 15.86 per 1/4 after the drive back from tulsa to detroit. The only bad things about her was the seats were worn and the paint was fadded, but There isn't any salt or very little snow in Oklahoma and with only 46k on the odometer, It was a great buy. Wish she was speed density thou, but I will just buy a whole new fuel management system.
