Is my starter on its way out?

For the past couple months it has been making a weird noise when you start it, it isn't grinding but what its doing is kind of like a bang and it shakes the car a little. Then the other day I tried to start it and it was spinning but it wasn't comming out and engaging the flywheel, on the third try it worked and hasn't done it again. When I did that though the car was in neutral not park, so I don't know if that can effect it.

Sounds like a broken Bendix. You can replace them, but it's probably just as cheap, and easier to buy a rebuilt starter if you haven't done it before.

Your bendix drive is out..

If you hit it with a hammer while trying to start it the bendix might come out and engage the flywheel.
