yea just like the title says my serpentine belt keeps splittin in the middle. gettin a bit annoying now since this will be my 3rd or 4th this year

what cud be causing this? do i have to replace a certain pulley or should i replace them all?

Try taking the belt off and looking and spining all the pullies. Sounds like theres something on one of the pullies cutting it or making a mark in the belt and causing it to split.

 

Also run your hand around the pullys to see if it might cut you, if it does Change pullyies.

Also where you buying your belts at? I will not buy belts at Shucks no matter if they are slightly cheaper then anywhere else. They have a problems with splitting as well.

 

yea i dont cheap out with my car. i get the best belts i can get. ill take a look at the pullies when i get back home.

since ill probably need new ones can someone recommend me good pullies for a 89 Camaro RS w/air conditioning, no smog pump, V6 2.8L

Also make sure your brackets are in good shape....not sure how the serpentines work (I have an 85 with V-Belts) but the alternator bracket bolts to the runners and had somehow gotten bent a little causing belt slippage and breaking.

If you don't feel like possibly cutting your hands up, take a cloth and run it around the pullies. Much easier, plus will catch the smaller things.

Yea the cloth Idea is better then cutting up ya hands.
