My LT1 got totaled last night, now I have a T56. Help!

Hey guys. Well, due to some very poor luck, my gf hit a curb in my '94 last night to avoid a drunk pedestrian and the '94 got totalled. To make the long story short, I have no coveridge insurnace, so now I have a '94 parts car. She hit the curb and the k-member buckled, took the front fenders out, rad, Y-pipe, crunched the oil pan (but motor still looks ok), stearing rack is sitting on the floor, etc.

BUT, I do have a complete LT1 6-speed parts car AND I have my '88 project car that I just finished the motor on. SO, my luck be, I will NOT have to deal with T5s or the th350 anymore, I can swap my T56 into the third gen.

I have the complete LT1, so have the LT1 hydros, clutch, flywheel, etc. The '88 is a 5-speed car, so that helps too. SO, what all will I need to buy to make the 6-speed fit. I would imagine I will need a custom x-member and that's about it. Correct? Thanks guys.

If the motor you just built is a late-model block then the LT1 flywheel will fit...all you'll need is a crossmember and a speedo converter.

Yup, its a 1-piece block, I used the flywheel from my 305 originally to run a T5(s) (7 of them) behind it. THIS TIME, the T56 will hold!

7 T-5's.....that's a lot of R&R work. The T-56 will definitely hold up a lot better, IIRC they're factory rated at like 450-475hp. And from what I hear, they're underrated.

Yes. I have been beating on that T56 for almost 2 years now with a Kevlar clutch, not a peep of problems! T5s are ok, but they are so light and won't handle torque or high rpm, which is what was killing mine. Funny, the one that lasted the longest was the factory one with 200,000 kms on it. Mind you, only 2 were world class. Rest were junkyard T5s. But still......
