My friend and I are wanting to build a 350 for his 1986 camaro. We are planning on useing h-beam rods, Forged speed pro pistons, and we need help decideing what cam to use (lift)? We want 10:1 compression, what heads do u recommend for this application? This car is going to be a street strip car does this set up sound good? 350 engine as listed above, turbo 400 trans drag ready, 4000 stall converter, b&m ratchet shifter, with a 3.73 locker rear end. Do you recommend anything else that will keep us streetable (as in around town cruising, to school and back? this car wont be driven on the highway) any suggestions? thanx for your help.

Well it sounds like a farily good set-up. For all around driving I'd go wtih a LSD unit, but that's just personal preference. I'm can't really help you on what cam to use. I know for heads and intake I picked up some old cast iron 2.02 heads off a first gen. Camaro. I then picked up an Edelbrock performer intake and then bought cam and carb and stuff around that.

Sorry, it's late and I'm tired as hell. I was just trying to say LSD, and I was looking a Posi units on ebay and it just came out. I meant to say you should consider looking into any sort of LSD as opposed to losked to make the car a little more street worthy. Good luck.

yeah 1 ?,from the sounds of it,why do you wanna waste money on h beams rods when it dont sound like u need them for your application..they dont make more power//

What RPM range are you planning on operating the motor at? I would guess that you plan on shifting it well past 6000 RPM based on your 4000 RPM stall and your choice of rods.

what we are trying to do is make a car that can run at track but also on the streets. we want the car in the low 12's all motor. if its possible we would like to run hydralic lifters to eliminate having to adjust rollers. with this discription what do you suggegest on a stall converter? engine parts? can it be done with a 350? bored .30 over? we are planning to shift the engine between 5500-6500rpms

Well, get the motor built first, then choose the converter based on what you want to do with the car, and what the converter manufacturer recommends.
Is this a 350 roller block? If you are only planning on going low 12s, a nice hydrolic roller cam like the Comp XR288HR would make that pretty easy. You could also step down to the XR282HR for slightly better street manners. There are tons of choices when it comes to heads, depends on your budget.

If you have to buy a rotating assembly go with a 383. Costs the same to build and would be more street-able and better at the strip.
