My firebird is Gone

The firebird is toasted ladies and gentlemen. After trouncing a modified 2004 Mazda (Speed?), I decided to do a victory burnout back in town.

The burnout was going well---until I blew the posi carrier. Which killed all the tension in my drivetrain, which caused my RPMs to spike up, which blew the motor.

Don't have to worry about Cylinder #7's compression now.

I'm a big fan of burnouts... Which is a ****ing shame, since that's what killed it off. I didn't think it was that hard on the rearend, if the tires spun easily.

Wow......I guess that gives new meaning to "going out with a bang."

So what's the plan now? 355?

I'm not sure yet...if I can get down to florida, I'll pick up DarthIROC's 400 and build that...if not I'm thinking LT1/T56 swap... My goal is to hit 12.7. That's it. An LT1 with a cam and some headwork should more then rock that number in the quarter mile, I'd think.

Do any of you know about the 4L80E swap? I do like automatics, but I want one with enough ***** that after I buy it, I'll never have to swap it out again. Ever. If I'm going to buy and build something, I want it to be as close to indestructible as possible.

(Yes, I do mean the 4L80 E swap. I've heard horror stories about 4L60E's blowing themselves to hell. I'd rather just build my 700R4, if the 4L60E's the best automatic option i've got---heard the 4L80E's are really durable and after a build are borderline indestructible, just a bit heavy---give feedback. )

Haha--I read the title and just chuckled. Burnouts are cool you've just got to be careful. But in your case it seems it was one of those "oh crap didnt mean to do that BOOM" kinda things. And an LT1 doesn't need head work to hit 12.7

As far as tranny goes, I'd just rebuild that 700. It's still quasi-good. A quality rebuild with better servos, blah blah will easily hold whatever you put in front.

All that money into the suspension crap just a few weeks ago and now this. I feel for you Brant.

Yeah... $8000 into this car (bought it with the brand new paintjob for $3500)... and I see these built-LS1-powered thirdgens with built trannies, full suspension, full everything...for like $7K.

I was pissed off. I cried like a baby. But yeah, I'll fix her, make her better then before.

If I can get a local shop to install all my rearend crap for like $200-300, I'll get the rearend built next monday. How many hours should it take for a rearend swap? new carrier, new gears, ratech rebuild kit, ta stud cover, solid pinion spacer/crush collar, and welding the axle tubes to the housing. I was thinking 3-5 hours abouts, at most.

Chime in with your opinions kids. If anyone wants to donate (or for really cheap) WS6 sway bars to me, for my hardships, I'd love them to death (corey I still hate you for that )

Please someone give him WS6 bars!! Haha, I will never live this one down. Understandably I reckon (that's right--reckon)

What are your plans for the motor? Assuming you can't drive to Florida for that 400?

it took my mechanic all day to finish it, and i even bought a solid spacer, which i recomeend, he had to take it apart 3 times to get the measurments right.

well, if I can get my hands on an LT1 (they're dirt cheap now! Jesus, ebay is loaded with 'em---when you can get an LS1 with 50,000 miles on it for $1.8K, with everything including accessories and computers---LT1's are worth **** hehe), I'll be buying a new hood (mine's still beautiful, but its cracked in places because of frame twist---pre subframes)...soo it'll have cold air. I'll get like a CC306, whatever cam gives her some good power, and decent lope. I love the sound of a meanass car loping.

Beyond the cam and mild headwork, I'm not really sure where to go from there. I'll start lurking on LT1 forums... if I'm going to get the motor, I'd just assune build it while its out. If I could break into the 11's, I'd be ecstatic. ****, if I could hit mid 13's right now I'd be pretty happy.

I'd like to, eventually, get to the point where I can lay down 400 RWHP on the dyno...but that's a pipe dream. If I have the spare cash while its out, I might go 383. Maybe LT4 intake? I really have no idea. If I can get my two '98 daily drivers sold, I'll have about $9,000 to play with. sooo after pro building my 700R4, that should leave me with, at least, $6000.

I'm a big fan of spray... though it scares me. If I had confidence my engine could take it, I'd love to have a hundred-shot setup. Just for the sake of having naaaaaaws. A little extra kick in the *** when I need it. Maybe if I'm loaded by then and win the lottery I'll get forged everything. Super LT1. :-D

All sounds good to me. I'll let you know a few proven 400RWHP LT1 setups next time we talk. I really researched the same thing when I was going to build the LT1 SBC.

Lope of a CC306--Priceless

Hehe superb. I don't like the shake-the-car-apart lope...or the stuttering-and-almost-dead lope...but I do love the shivering.

400 horsepower would be glorious...that's all i want really. 400 FLY horsepower, but with an engine built to take some spray, so I can juice it up a bit if i want to put down 400+ rwhp.

Cam and head LT1s have been known to lay down 400+ RWHP with no spray. If you want a truely mean cam, look for a sound clip of the GM847 cam. Its got a very nasty idle. You could also do a version of the cam I'm running, but ground on a 112 LSA instead of 114. That would really sound mean too.
