Does it turn over fine?
What do you hear when you try to start it, any clicking?
Are all of the battery connections tight?
Headlights bright?
Give me more info and I try to help...

There's a pair of really fine wires under the steering column that lead to a connector at the base of the steering column usually labeled "VATS".
Read the resistence across the ignition key and buy a resistor of the same value and jump it across the connector on the side that goes to the ECM. This will bypass it in the event you aren't getting a good connection in the steering column.
But to eliminate it completely you will need custom programming.
