Motor ID #

I've checked out the rpo codes in my glove box and it says the engine is a 305. I ran it at the track and ran a 15.8 which is about stock for a 350. The guy I bought it from said it was a 5.7 liter 305 and it was the same 305 they put in the vette! So I think he was a little confused. Are there any other ID numbers on the engine that are easier to get to than behind the head? Thanks.

Re: Motor ID #

GM never used a 305 in the Vette. The 305 is a 5.0 and the 350 is 5.7. What year is your car? I'm assuming that the PRO code is LB9. What rearend gears do you have? Look at the RPO codes for GU2, GU3 etc...

With that 2:73 10-bolt rear and a Auto you have the LB9 305 TPI or LO3 TBI,
But Not a 350. Most sellers will say it a 350 or a Vette engine to get more money. Check the 8th digit of the VIN for the engine that came in the car. A little late doing your research after buying the car.

Yes they did during the 80's in California.

To find out what engine is in there now check the casting #'s www.mortec.com

Yet another reason for California to fall into the ocean.

15.8 is what a stock 350 TPI should run... with a plug wire missing!
That's more inline with a stock 305 TPI with an automatic trans and a your claimed 2.73 should run. A good running stock 350 TPI should be anywhere from .7 to 1.3 seconds faster than that.

Like 87DJP2001 suggested, check the 8th digit of the VIN. 8 = original 350 TPI car, and F = 305 TPI, E = 305 TBI. I'm betting you'll find an F
