Motor dies when trying to get right on it....
Hey fellas,
I have a 1978 Z/28 that I just bought. It has a 1985 305 HO in it.
The mods are carb (Holley 650 Double Pumper) Wolverine cam, roller rockers, double roller timing chain, thrush exhaust, Shift kit + 2 speed powerglide shifter.
This was all on it when we bought it. We just had to get the correct shift cable for it.
Well the problem goes, we just got the car back from the mechanic (he stuck the shift cable on) and when we go to get right on the pedal it dies down. We can ease on the pedal and it will run fine, but you can't just "stomp on it."
We haven't really done anything to it to find out but all I can think of is, is it getting the right amount of fuel or get it tuned so everything is timed right. I'm not sure whether the guy had it done or not but she isn't runnin like she should.
Another problem is, with the transmission, it goes into gears hard.
If anyone has any ideas we'd be greatly appreciated if you could help us. Thanks guys.
Take it easy,
Justin

Well sounds like you need to get your carb set up.Your could be running lean not enough fuel or rich to much.It sounds like its just bogging. As the tran's goes does it shift hard or go into gear hard from part.
Okay, I'll take a look at the carb and work on that stuff.
As for the trans, if you go to park it goes in park hard, if your in park and trying to stick it into gear it goes in hard.
Thanks for the help,
Justin

when u mean "hard"...do u mean like the car shakes or thumps when u put it in gear? if so,sounds to me like it has the wrong converter in the trans. if u mean the tranny just goes into gear stiff w/o the car shaking and stuff, thats just b/c of the shift kit.
Hmmm sorry for the delay in post. I went out of state for a few days.
Took a look at the carb, was getting to much gas we believe. We fixed that last night but haven't taken it out for a spin.
As for trans, if I remember correctly when you went to stick it in reverse from park or drive, the car would say jump around, then if you went to stick it into drive it'd jump forward. Right now it won't go into park. We might take the tran out and stick in a manual but, that's if we don't get rid of it before then.
