Previously I put a open element, now I cut off the cat and removed the A.I.R stuff and put a Thrush glaspack in place of the muffler. Really makes it peppy, in sted of chirping 2nd gear (5 speed) I really screached them. I am really happy with it at this point.

I have an 89 rs that I use as a daily driver that I am talking about. I have had it for close to two years and doing a few project on it like this, keeps me out of trouble .. until I get on the street :-)

 

Why not a 3 in exhaust system? Some of them are even less restrictive than glasspacks and less likely to draw attention of the law.
