LT4 Cam Question

Apparently there are two LT4 cams. There is the LT4 HOT Cam, 218 / 228 Duration@ 0.050, Hydraulic Roller Camshaft and the Chevy LT4, 203/210 Duration @ 0.050, Hydraulic Roller Camshaft. From the SDPC information the not Hot cam is a better street cam. Does anyone have any real world experience with either of both of these.

I am building a smog street motor using modified Vortec heads, SLP runners and manifold.

Thanks

Jim

Where in California are you? I have the LT4 HOT cam, and let me tell you its not a mild cam. It requires a custom chip and valvetrain mods to be sure the heads can handle the lift. The other LT4 cam came stock in the 96 LT4 Corvette engine. Its a nice mild cam for a daily driver you want a little more power out of, but not for racing. And it doesnt require a custom chip. I think the best cam for the Vortec heads would be the ZZ4. It has a nice long exhaust duration, where the Vortec heads need the help. But again with its high lift the heads have to be setup for it.
