tranny cooler
tranny cooler
just wondering if tranny coolers are worth it?. . . also has anyone heard of these tranny pans with ventalation inside supposed to do the same thing as cooler only a little better from what i understand and easier to install. TIA
If you use a stock torque converter then the stock cooler in the rad is fine. Since an F-body won't pull any heavy loads, it's hard to overheat the tranny.
If you use any sort of aftermarket torque converter or pull/haul heavy loads with a truck then an external cooler is highly recommended. Higher stall converters build a lot of heat because they slip more at lower rpms. Heat is the #1 killer of automatic transmissions. You need to keep the tranny oil around the same temperature that the engine runs at 160-195*.
Extra protection is to buy a tranny cooler with it's own electric fan. That way it can be mounted anywhere.
