Question LT1 swap headers and catback combo?

I am transplanting an LT1 into a 88 Camaro Coupe. I want to do some LTs, high flow cat, and a good quiet-er exhaust. I'm thinking some pace setter LTs if they fit well. I believe I will go with a custom Y pipe and a 3" high flow cat. I like the SLP 2otl exhaust although I havent found one for a 88 that is 3". Anyone know how fitment is?

i dont know of anyone personally that has the LT's on a thrid gen, but ive talked to some people on other forums, and a good friend who is an absolute camaro nut, and they all say that you cant beat the performance of them, but you sacrifice alot of ground clearence. then come down and become the lowest part of the car, which doesnt leave much in the way of traveling room for your body. if you dont care about ground clearence, forget what i just said and totally go for them.

I might get me some MAC mid-lengths if they sacrifice too much ground clearance.

You arent likely to get 4th gen longtubes to even fit into the car, count your pacesetters out, hookers for a 3rd gen will work, but they are rediculously low, shorties are it, SLP p/n 30005 is the best off the shelf choice IMO, some others have also had good luck with hooker 2055's.

What about a good 3" catback? I dont want to sacrifice too much for this swap. If it comes down to it I will just get a 4th gen. LOL

The 30005s will bolt up to a LT1 head?

I need the largest primaries I can get. The SLP website doesn't give you a desription of them headers. Any ideas?

Any header that was designed to go into the 3rd gen BODYSTYLE will work. I have the hooker 2005 and love them. The y-pipe is the main reason I went with them over the SLP. The hookers are 1 5/8 and the Slp are 1 3/4 for the 3005, but do a search on thridgen.org for pics of the y-pipe. You have to go with the set that will be routed properly for your bodystyle, other than that all SBC (except LSX) have the same bolt pattern. Oh as for a good mellow cat-back, but really screams when provoked, look into the eldebrock. Huge 3" mandel bent, stainless steel, lifetime warrenty, and best of all (for me) is they tuck up in the stock location with the slash-cut turndowns. Looks completly stock, as I don't like projection from the rear of the car. Gives a good clean look, and helps add to the sleeper effect in my oppionion.

Question Re: LT1 swap headers and catback combo?

Is the y pipe flange on the SLP's a 3" out?

Re: LT1 swap headers and catback combo?

The SLP's are what most of the thridgen guys are using. Unless they are doing a custom header setup. If i were you i'd recomend the SLP 1 3/4's like i said these are your best bet for performance/streetability in the 3rd gens.

I like my Hooker supercomp longtubes, ground clearance to me is not that bad but I don't drive it every single day. I like how you can remove part of the header pipe on passenger side to drop in the starter!
