electric water pump question

I have an electric water pump on its own switch which just turns it on and off. and then I have an electric fan on its own separate switch. im wondering what I can do to get this connected to the temp to automatically turn on. This was a engine swap into a 75 porsche 914 so its a bit unique.

I suggest leaving the wp on a switch for quick warmup and putting the fan on a hypertech or painless fan temp switch with a relay. If the pump were to shut off during operation hotspots could quickly develop in the heads and lead to detonation.

Re: electric water pump question

There is a switch called a "Tic Toc" switch used in racing that switches the water pump off and on for better cooling(or something like that)I think you may find them in a Jegs cataloge if I'm not mistaken. Might be what you need.

Re: electric water pump question

ok here is why i have an electric pump. the car was originally setup with an air cooled 4 cylinder angine, so now there is a water cooled v8 mounted in the rear. the water lines to the radiator run the full length of the car to the front where the radiator is. so the problem was the engine would rev too fast and blow the hoses off the fittings, we fixed that problem and the hoses were bursting instead. with the electric pump the problem is no more. but now its just hooked up to an on off switch and not temprature controlled.
I found something recently which I think is just what i need. it's a Moroso Thermostatic water pump switch.

ok im assuming here and going out on a ledge that this isnt a camaro you have????also im assuming you were bursting hoses cause im guesing they were too long?if that was the case did you try a solid hose between the front and rear of car, maybe pvc or a copper pipe?just use the rubber to connect the pipe to engine and or radiator

I don't think your original problem was the stock pump pumping to much, but it had to much back pressure. I think what was needed was an auxsilory(sp?)pump on the return side of the radiator. The stock pump is not intended to move that much water ,that far. With a aux pump, stainless tubing, and Earls solid radiator hose your problem should go away.
