lt1 conversion ?s

i just bought a 95 lt1 camaro with a t56 that was only wrecked in the back but nothing to the drivetrain was damaged. anyways i have the whole car with the motor, trans, computer, wiring harness, and guages. it is only missing the radiator which i am going to buy a new one. anyways my question is can i use the stock wiring harness and computer(from the 95) and will they match up to aftermarket autometer guages? i also want to know if the clutch and brake pedals from the 95 will work on my 87iroc. whatever help that you can provide will be greatly appriceated

I'm in the middle of converting my 87iroc to 95 LT1 impala SS motor. I bought the motor with the ECM and wiring. There is ALOT of wires to figure out, so I ended up contacting "howell inc." and had them send me a speed denstity ecm and wire harness for $700.

I would deffinetly go the howell route, they are great and te work everything out with you. I have actually been to there facility twice and it's a great place. It's small so they can take there time and do things right. If you really need any more help check this out. http://www.iroczsource.com go to the tech database on the left and it will tell you all you need to know. Any more questions e-mail Jason. He has a 85 iroc LT1 6speed and he knows quite a bit

my only question(which is major) is that how to get the a/c connected. NJ is a humid place in the summer... and I hate driving to work and smelling bad.

so far i have a friend(that work in gm parts department) that printed me out pictures of the 95 impala, 95 camaro, and 87 camaro a/c set-up.

going to check around some more. however if anyone has input that would be great...

I had this exact problem in an 82 z28 conversion I did with a 94 lt1. What we ended up doing was using the stock iroc wiring from the ac controller and going to the lt1 ac clutch (An AC guy knows how to do this if your not comfortable). I was concerned about the computer not knowing about the ac ( it sightly adjusts the idle when the ac comes on) but this hasent been a problem yet. If it becomes a problem I can just send the ac control line to the 'AC sens line' on the ecm.

If you dont have it the GM service manual from HEIM was invaluable for this sort of thing.

Good luck

Have fun. A/C wasn't worth it to me. Besides...the car's lighter without it.

hey lt1powered85z how do you think the ac will fit with a tubular kmember? i have heard that with a tubular kmember that you could even drop the oil pan. just do you think that the ac will fit fine with the tubular kmember?

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with using a tubular k-member, so I can't really answer that question for you. The k-member though, doesn't really have much to do with the area where the accessories are...but like I said, I don't have experience with it.

Eric, I'm sorry if I offended you, that wasnt my intention. You helped me out with some LT1 radiator conversion questions a while ago and I just wanted to say Hi. I used to be 82Lt1 but my account got messed up.

Again, sorry for the confusion,

Robert Christiano

actually the k-member is the whole problem. the lt1 accessories from a camaro are mounted low on the passenger side. the ac compressor in the configuration hits the k-member. from what the shop says thats doing my conversion, its only a bout 1/4 to 1/2 an inch too long. there are a couple ways you can go about this. the one ive seen most is to just not use the a/c. another, one im not comfortable with ans dont reccomend, but ive seen some people doing this, is to take a sledgehammer and beat the k-frame down until the a/c fits. like i said attempt at youre own risk. another option albiet an expensive one it get corvette bracketts, the vette lt1 has all the accesories mounted high on the drivers side, but to do all the accessories youre probally looking at $700-$1000 for the bracketts depending on where you get them and what type of finish you want on them. another option that i havent looked into yet is find a compressor off of another car that is shorter. let me know what you do and what you find out because im in the same prediciment, i want ac on my car also. as for the tobular k-member i can gaurentee it because i dont really know, but i think the compressor should clear it. hope that helps.
