LT1 in 3rdgen f body. Anything I need to know?

Im going to be putting an LT1 in a 3rdgen along with a T56 transmission. Is there anything I should know before attempting this?

This topic has kinda been beaten to death brought back then beaten again.lol. better info on the 3rd gen swap can be found over @ thirdgen.org in the engine swap section. its a good fun swap and brings new life to our older cars. its well worth the cost too. its getting so that lt1 engines are getting cheaper and cheaper and easy to find as well.

yup...i'm not picking either side here, but lets not turn this into a big thread abotu bashing LT1 swaps because its not that big of a change from a TPI motor and stuff like that..just search around, there is tons of info on this swap, and its easy as hell if you got the car with the LT1 one in it too..then you can just convert everything over, and convert stuff over as you go...

It is that big of a change as far as performance goes, the swap is well worthwhile, take a look around on thirdgen.org , all the info is available.

try and get a Corvette LT1 as it will drop right in. If you don't care about A/C, it doesn't matter, just get the a/c delete pulley for an F-Body LT1.

wiring can be fairly easy or a total pain, just depends on your skill, and if you spend the money to get a premade harness or do it yourself.

you can use your stock radiator and '93 radiator hoses

you'll need a new crossmember for the T-56

its early and I'm tired, but thats some quick things right off the top of my head. check out thirdgen.org and let me know if you need any more help, I'm TexasLT1 over there.

It is fairly straight forward, as 92lt1rs stated it is easier to use a lt1 from a vette but is not imparative, mine is actually out of a 95 z28. This caused some cleance issuse with the ac compressor but nothing major. You can clearance your stock k-member, go with a tubular k-member, go with the 1le delete pulley, different brackets for your alt., ac, etc., or once again go with the vette lt1. Oh and one more thing you should know it will put a huge simle on your face the first time you hit it , at least for me it did. The 305 tbi<<<<<<<<<<350lt1. It is a great learning experiance and worth the effort in my (unbiased oppinion of course ).

305 ?? Try going from a half running 2.8 to a fully built LT-1. We switched to carbed and distributor setup with a lumpy cam and big stall Best part is, it's the wifes car

Stock LT1 + Thirdgen = mid 13's easy. Gears, and headers = low 13's.

Cammed LT1 with headers = mid 12's in a thirdgen.

I want one.

I'll kinda have one. I have a set of LT1 heads on the side, paid $50 for them. Drill the dizzy hole, do the cooling, and convert the heads and there ya go. A LT1 SBC. Ought to be fun. I'll have an LT1, but at the same time I won't have an LT1.
