Low rear gears stress drivetrain more?

Do real low gears (such as T56 and 3.08's) hurt drivetrain parts? For example...I can't even dump the clutch (without going to 4k) and spin the tire(s)<--Open rear The car just really bogs.

And when I start off pretty quick then lay hard in the gas it lugs...is this putting more stress on my rear?

More stress on the engine and combustion when you lug/bog an engine. A 3.08 gear would be stronger than say...a 3.73 or 4.10 though. Same goes for axles, etc. Less gear ratio means it's transmitting less tq. Definately a wierd question man.

i'm not real sure whats making your bogging, but what autoroc said is true, BUT there is another side to the stress question. lower (numerically) gears like a 2.73 puts more stress on the rest of the drivetrain because it is harder for the car to get the gears going. it takes more torque to get the car moving, causing stress on the driveshaft and transmission. the tranny takes most of the stress, especially a 700R4. a t56 shouldn't be worn by it over the years though. gears like 3.42,3.73,etc put less stress on the rest of the drivetrain because it takes much less torque to get it moving. so the verdict is, less stress on tranny, driveshaft, a little more stressful on posis and stock axels. a 3.42 gear seems to the man in the middle. lighter on the tranny, not as bad on the rear. as goofy as this sounds, it's true. i did research on stress of the drivetrain. pros and cons. blah blah blah. a lot of details

Cool. Thanks man, I was thinking along the same lines as you. I just asked this question to see how soon I should get the 3.73's.

well, what i stated is true but u do have to remember tat the stress takes forever to catch up and start excessive wear to anyting unless there is a malfunction of something. I've seen 4.10 t56 setups 120,000 miles on the setup before they finally broke the gears runnig low-mid 11's on a dead hook. this car was also his daily driver. so it lasted through a lot of abuse. but by statistics through study, 3.42's seem to be the best combo. get those 3.73's soon!! you'll love them.
