Loud Speedometer

I have an 87 Camaro. Okay, my speedometer makes this annoying as anything can get sound and flips out like its possesed. It only happens when its cold. The colder it is, the louder and more crazy it goes. Its very loud and I dont even know how to describe how it sounds. It only happens while im driving, when i go faster the speedo starts to jumps all over the place, sometimes its makes a full circle and stops at zero. When I bring the car to a stop, it stops. Once it gets warm inside the car the sound goes away. Anyone else have this? or am I the lucky one?

good news and bad

I have the same problem. I always assumed it was a worn Speedometer Cable that could be replaced for like $15 or so, but never got around to changing it, so sometimes in the winter i get the same problem. You're definetly not alone, just not sure if thats ur fix. Now that i live in PA mostly it never really effects me anymore but id like a fix also. Good Luck. -matt

my 88' caprice had those issues. I had the cable oiled cause i didnt feel replacing it was worth my time, that and that it was a under cover cop car and the speddometer was off by about 8 mph anyway.

Very common problem with ALL older cars. All you need to do is remove the instrument cluster and disconnect the cable from the trans tailhousing. Pull the white square shaped cable out of the tubing and lube it well with white lithium grease. Reinstall everything.
