700r4 tranny help

i have an 87 700r4 in my iroc which is also an 87. when i put in low 1 and floor it, the car spins untill around 4500-5000, then shifts to 2nd and spins some more. also, when im in low 1 or any gear for that matter, when im cruising at around 2500 and upshift, it dosent shift.... it waits until it winds out to like 4 grand or so then shifts. the tranny is the original tranny. i have installed a B&M holeshot 2400 lock-up converter, corvette servo, racing shift kit, and a 3/4 throttle kickdown valve. im also using a B&M mega shifter (which is hard to shift grrrr) Is there any way i can make this tranny shift when i want it to, and not when it wants too? Thanks for any help

Take your TV cable and push the button to reset it.....Then have a friend get in the car and push the gas all the way down..CAR BETTER BE OFF!!!!! you should hear the clicking noise...now take the wire and pull it till it cannot go anymore (it will move about another couple centimeters) and your done!!!!! this is for WOT applications...I had the same prob with mine and this fixed it!!!!

Adjusting the TV cable will make the shift points a little more reasonable, but it won't give you any more control over when the tranny shifts. What you're lookin for is a full-manual valvebody. It will eliminate the automatic shifting altogether.....the trans will shift only when you move the shifter. They're expensive though, so be ready to shell out some bucks for it. The kickdown valve and cable will be eliminated, and I believe you will have to get a lockup switch if you want the converter to lock up.

If the TV cable is way out of adjustment, it can produce very late shifts. You say you have a "racing shift kit", which one?

its a shift kit from B&M that offers 3 stages, 1 being for towing, 2 being for street\strip applications, and 3 being for all-out race cars, i chose #3

is it possibe for the tv cable to stretch over time? i ask because im on my second trans and it only has a few thousand miles on it and its already starting to shift sloppy. if it is stretched do you have to go to a dealership to get it or should the local parts store have it?

I would double check the TV cable adjustment. Did the transmission shift "ok" before the changes? As for the TV cable "stretching", no. You might lose adjustment from the ends wearing, but it cannot stretch.

Should'a bought the Street/Strip kit.

Other than installing a different kit (supposing you didn't drill yer Valve body), about the only other way to adjust your shifting is to do what TheGreatJ said... buy the kit and convert your tranny to a manual/automatic.

I used a similiar BandM kit, and opted for the stage three as well. I found the 1-2 shifts too harsh, so I went backwards to the stage 2. But neither of the shift kits moved the shift RPM up.

1 & 2 shifts to harsh?? is that possible?? j/k it is a neck breaker when it shifts from 1st to second, keeps the tires spinnin too. Personally, i love it, but my girlfriend hates it. She dosent like to drive it (Oh Darn ) Anyway, ive opted to take TheGreatJ's advice and go with a manual valve body with reverse pattern, does anyone know for sure if i have to wire up a lock-up switch?? And to whever has used one, what do you think of them?

Past experience (with others) tells me you will have problems with the reverse pattern valve body. The transmission will be at "max main line pressure" all the time. The front pump is not setup for this, and neither is the rest of the transmission and something will most likely give way. If you happen to take off in 3rd a few times you can finish off the unit. This is not a TH400 where you can get away with this procedure without to much side effects. You can do this if you want, but be forewarned that this most likely will create more problems than it solves. When this unit is setup correctly, these complaints are just about non-existent. Just my professional opinion.

How about adjusting the governer in the trans to get it to shift when you want. It is a trial and error thing so you might have to grind some of it out, put it back and try again. At least that was what the tranny people did for me to adjust it.
