Looking to buy an 83 Z28. Questions.
Hi. New here and in Vernon BC, Canada. I have owned a couple camaros, 1978/9 in the past, but have owned Tbird SCs in recent years.
I'm taking the step-son to look at a 1983 Z28 today. He has seen it already and just wants it. This is his first car purchase after a summer of saving.
Just wanting to know what to look for. Any issues?
High mileage, but the 305 was replaced with a 350 out of a van a couple of years ago. Engine looks clean and runs quiet. Starts right up. Watched the owner drive away smooth and quick.
Car has T-tops, power windows/locks, aftermarket CD, brand new BFG T/As, billet style wheels (clean/perfect), auto.
Car owned the last three years by a lady cruising back and forth to work (20 min drive). Before she bought, car was painted from white to maroon. No rust, just rock chips showing original white paint. Body looks good with usual dings from daily use. Garage kept in winter.
Asking $2400 CDN. Any thoughts? We are checking it out later today.
Thanks for any help.
Brad

look dude maybe u should make sure its a good 350 u dont want some crappy 350 that wont run anything u could check this by getting casting #. check the bottom for rust or oxidation. make sure the t tops dont have rust or oxidation in the cracks......
my camaro was sitting in the grass for 8 years down here in miami so it had some rust under the car ihad to take care off.... but mine still has the 305 i just put a few parts in it....
but other than that it sounds pretty good for that price u should look everywhere for problems that i didnt think of...........

Thanks. I'll check that out. I'll be getting the VIN today at least. He can't pay for it until tomorrow anyway, bank closed today. I plan of taking some pics.
Her bf also said that it has 'vette suspension. Would that be a factory option or is he full of s**t?
For a couple grand, seems decent. The new BFGs and wheels seem worth the price alone. Nice clean ride.

Heh, people love to throw the word Corvette in front of anything to make it sound faster.
She's got them thar Corvette Engine under that hood!
However, I think a 1983 Z28 is a pretty car. I'd take it back to white then restore the graphics by buying a kit from phoenix graphics, if I were you.
There's lots of potential in that car and with a stock 350, it'll make a good first car, I'd think. $2400 CDN doesnt sound bad as long as there isn't much wrong with the car.
Check the rear quarters underneath the ground effects for rust. Also look at the front strut towers where the plastic fender liners are fastened. Dirt builds up there sometimes and it rusts out the strut towers when it does.
