looking for 12sec combos keeping the efi
pull the motor and put a stroker kit in it.
the key item is to let your motor breathe
headers exhaust intake cam
compression--10 to 1
even nos or supercharger or turbos
but if you add a supercharger or turbo u will need like 8.5 to 1 pistons
hope this helps

you dont need to pull the motor to put yourself in the 12's. get a VERY GOOD set of heads, i.e. AFR or the like, a good intake, lt1 intake of course, and have a suitable cam put in it. after that rebuild the tranny to take that much power, geter stall, beefed up rear with atleast 3.42's in it and you should be there or if not you will be VERY close...
Cheap and efficient:
Any 350 shortblock and rotating assembly
10:1 pistons
Vortech iron heads 1.94/1.5 valves machined for screw in studs and LT4 valvesprings.
ZZ3, ZZ4, hotcam
Scoggin-Dickey TPI base (Vortech specific)
24# LT1 injectors
AS&M big tube runners
Ported plenum
stock TB
custom PROM
headers
2500-2800 stall converter
3.23 or 3.42 gears
I guarantee this will go high to mid 12's then spray it and go 11's.
Total price...
Under $4000

Mike! That's not cheap
Come on..you know what the cheap route is...
-Stock L98 engine that burns NO OIL
-1-3/4" headers to an open 3" cutout welded to the 3" y-pipe exit
-Auto trans
-2500 rpm P.I. or Yank Converter
-26"X11.5" ET Streets @ 15 PSI for your 16X8" rims(right?)
-LCA's w/ Poly Bushings (Lakewood is cheap
)
-Some sort of POSI rearend, I don't care what gears.
-Remove front Sway Bar
-Nitrous Express Wet kit jetted to a supposed 150 HP*
-Launch with the brake, engine stalled at 2500 rpm and have the system armed and ready to be turned on when your foot hits the floor( full throttle switch action
)
*Either LT1 wet kit can be used or the TPI kit. The TPI kit uses a throttle body plate for injection and the LT1 kit uses a single Shark nozzle which I plumbed INTO the MAF sensor(BEHIND the hot wire aimed at the engine)...I like the LT1 setup. Be sure to also purchase a Fuel Pressure Safety Switch, a Bottle Heater, full throttle switch, and a botte opener just to make things simpler.
You might also need a better fuel pump if you start making too much power
Walbro 340M 255LPH seems to be reccomended sometimes.
If you wanted to dip furthur into the 12's...possibly high 11's maybe, you could do an LT1 Intake swap before all this, buy a 3200 RPM torque converter instead of the 2500, and then plumb yourself a Direct Port nitrous system from Nitrous Express of course still jetted for 150hp.
This would be very hairy!!

You think such an old motor can put up with sprays all day long? I doubt it. Personally, I'd go with AFR heads, Superram intake system, SLP 1 3/4 headers and 3 in exhaust and 26 pph injectors, spray it till it dies. Sell of the spray and then get a supercharger.
Do remember that the spray is cheap till you add up the refils.

Never broke it. Miles mean nothing if you keep your engine maintained. I have already proven that.

I just gotta mention my old 1988 Vette with 250,000 miles and a healthy 150 shot

I launch ever stop light I can do so safely (about 2 or 3 a day) and do drive it hard. I maintain my car well but got about 90K out of the stock engine before it started going south. That was NA too.
I drive my car extremely hard with 160k on the odometer now. about to find out what it'll do in the quarter some time this week (expecting high 13s, went 14.2 stock w/ 145k miles). plan on spraying it early next year. we'll see how the old motor stands up then i guess.
Man I drove that Vette like I stole it
I used to do nitrous launches on drag radials for the last year before I sold it. The car never had many problems outside normal maintenence. It needed a trans once, a set of tires every 2-3 months, and the oil changed with Mobil 1 every 3000-4000 miles. I always fixed things if they broke, and sometimes even if they didn't :P and took good care of that car. Heres a pic...

I miss that car more than any car I've ever owned (over 100) and I know that the next one I get will be a life-long keeper to add to my collection.

It depends on if you want it to run 12's all the time or just once. I have a friend that is giving away a 305, just slap on a 200 shot with good tires and there you go. But once the finish line comes up you are going to have to push.
Now to be serious I have been doing some reading on the LT1 heads on a L98 block and it is looking promising, if you have someone you trust to do head work. Lt1 heads can be had for real cheap and the work doesnt look that expensive and then you can run the LT1 intake on it. 350 .030 over some forged pistons and rods, nice cam, mine is going to be flat tappet since I dont have the moeny to convert it .224/.230 .512/.518 (1.6 rockers) 112 LSA, 24# injectors, nice igintion, some good suspension mods and nice sticky tires. I should be right at 12's for around $3000 for it all.
