Lockup torque convertor doesn't lock up anymore?? What gives?

Lockup torque convertor doesn't lock up anymore?? What gives?
I have an 86 Z28 with a de-computerized carb'd 383 in it. The tranny is a 700r4 that's been rebuilt, and an aftermarket torque convertor was added with a 2500rpm stall.
The convertor locked up fine for more than a year, but then in the past little while it stopped locking up all the time. Now, it doesn't lock up at all.
Is there a limit to how much torque the convertor can take while in lockup mode? What should I check to trouble shoot this?
