L98 with a manual tranny
L98 with a manual tranny
Hey fellas I have a question...I'm about to put a 87 L98 into my buddies 92 5 speed RS...I was just sitting here thinking and way back when I seem to remember someone sayng L98's don't have a hole for the pilot bushing since none of them came with manuals.
So my Questions to you are
1. Is my memory clear, or did I smoke to much as a Teenager
2. Will the crank out of the 305 that's in the RS work in the 350?? I know they are the same stroke, but I do not know if they are the same bearing clearances or if it's as strong.

No, but why do you think all of the 350's came with an auto? The 5-speeds can't handle the torque from the 350.
Re: L98 with a manual tranny
We plan on destroying it...That way he has a reason to upgrade it :-)
Na it's a work in progress and it's a second vehicle so if he breaks it no biggy...Don't know what he'll go with later.
Thanks for the input fellas, musta been smoking a buncha weed back then.

My T5 lasted behind the combo in my sig for almost a year, including the 12.80 run, but the next trip to the track, it shredded third gear. A T5 will handle a 350 engine just fine on the street. The problem is when you bolt on sticky tires and go racing.

There are plenty of people out there abusing t5's. Stock for stock 305 vs 350 there was only 15-20 lb/ft difference.

You must believe in Santa Clause too, right? There are plenty of people out there abusing t5's. Stock for stock 305 vs 350 there was only 15-20 lb/ft difference.
For an '87 maybe. For my year Z28, it was anywhere from 45-60 ft-lbs.
Pardon me, it was 35 ft-lbs for an '87.
