what type of alternator do you have, the older SI or the newer CS, you should have a CS, I know if the L terminal at the alt has less than 35 ohms in it it will kill the voltage regulator, so you may want to check that

you can watch this thread also, we're trying to get his alt charging, has some good tests

I went thru five cheap-*** no name rebuilt alternators in 2 years before I finally paid the extra money (at a discount GM dealer) for a genuine Delco brand new alternator. Its been running great for more than two years now. (knock on wood)

Take your belt off and see if the pulley has any play in it, if it does the bearings are bad in it, if it's making a sound like a little supercharger, gets hot real fast and your volts are a little low then 1 or more diodes have gone out in it. Best fix is to take it to a good alternator & starter repair place and have them go through it, or do it yourself, a guy here will replace the diodes and bearings for $40.00, cheap rebuilt ones are junk usually, even the lifetime ones.

that loud nosie can be a idler pulley as well, but usually the rear bearing in the alternator.

cheap, lifetime and name brands are all junk, alts suck

going to get another one now.

gotta have it running good soon. dyno is comming up, im shooting for 450rwt out of this all motor small block.
