just put a half a cup of striaght methanol in there. they say its supposed to clean your fuel system real well well see. anyone of try this

They used to sell "gasahol" (late 1970's, looking to beat an oil crunch), it was "gas" made from corn (alcohol). It was hard on rubber hoses, but it cleaned everything out of the tank, lines, etc. Usually, it would promptly clog up the fuel filter (and the next 4 you installed after it) and make the car run like crap until you get it all cleaned out. I would have just used an off the shelf cleaner (STP or similar) and called it a day. You will see some cleaning action from that I'm sure, but I hope you don't create more problems than you fix.

Methanol is wood alcohol aka Methyl Hydrate (poisonous to drink). Corn alcohol is something completely different.

Methanol is commonly used as a gas line antifreeze. I doubt a full cup would have any affect on performance. You could put a quart/liter of it into a full tank to try and pass emission testing since it will improve the emissions.

But you were right in that they were experimenting with corn alcohol in the 70's and that's what Gasohol was.

Now the oxygenated fuels are ethanol blended. This is a mixture of ethyl alcohol and grain alcohol. and is drinkable (the alcohol not the gasoline)

More info on fuel blending your own race gas. Unless you can buy the additives for dirt cheap, it's cheaper to just buy race gas.

Blending 92 pump gas with 10% methanol results in 94.3 octane. So for every 9 gallons of pump gas you need to add 1 gallon of methynol to see that kind of increase. Even 100 octane race fuel is probably cheaper.

Remember, you only need enough octane to eliminate detonation. Any more and it's just costing you money that can be spent elsewhere.

Run Xylene in there and it'll clean the fuel injectors. Along with giving you extra octane.

Mix 1 gallon of Xylene to 3 gallons of gas. Add 1oz of Marvel Mystery Oil for every gallon of Xylene.

It'll turn 93 octane into 99 octane and you'll have a nice clean fuel system. Cleans the combustion chamber also.

Don't get it on your paint Very harmful to rubber but the MM oil will add back some lubricant.

well its in the back of my work truck. dosent cost me but 2bucks a gallon i only used it to clean up my fuel system i seem to have a miss so i want to see if that works. we use that methanol to ungell fuel oil where i work its good ****

Why hasn't there been an alcohol car then? I know nothing about alcohol burning cars, what's the deal? Advantages/Disadvantages? Just looking to learn...

100% methanol cars are a high maintanence fuel vehicle. People normally have trouble changing their oil every 3000 miles or checking tire pressures once a week. Car makers want to make vehicles that don't need a lot of normal maintanence.

I believe one of the worst things about running alcohol is the amount of fuel that needs to be used is about double that of gas and tends to wash the oil film off the cylinder walls, that results in vastly shorter engine life.
