Hey guys i just bought myself a 1984 irocz, i want to check to see what gear i have i was wondering where about i would look to find that?

There was an IROC in 84'?

 

Look at the RPO codes in the glove or the rear storage compartment. There should be a 3 digit code

GU1 : AXLE REAR, 2.41 RATIO
GU2 : AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO
GU4 : AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GU5 : AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
GU6 : AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO

um...there was no iroc in 84....came out first in 85

someone has some mis-information...either it's a clone, or its actually an 85+

 

exactly, I have the first year of the iroc and shes an 85.

 

wow check the codes on your storage compartment cover 84 iroc-z looks like someone tryed to disquise it as one

whats an easy way to tell if its an 84 or 85?

 

what's the 8th and 10th letter in your vin #?

the 10th digit tells you what year car it is...

tenth digit year: C=82, D=83, E=84, F=85, G=86, H=87, and so on and so on...


the 8th digit in your vin tells you what type of motor you have in it.

LG4 5.0 Carbureted 305ci 155hp H <---- 8th digit
L69 5.0 Carbureted 305ci 190hp G <---- 8th digit
LB9 5.0 Tuned Port 305ci 215hp F <---- 8th digit

also your registration tells you the yr???? wouldnt you know if it was a 85 or not if you just bought it???

if its a 84 its not an iroc. in 85 they changed the front bumpers to have a lower lip and the hoods were changed and the irocs got lovered hoods and grid tail lights and 16'' iroc wheels, also a iroc name plate on the dash.
only way to tell for sure if its a rear irocz is look for the rpo code B4Z.

What did you find out???

 

You can make a fake RPO code. When you get your car registered the year should be on there. Run the VIN here http://thirdgen.org/newdesign/vin/. That will give you the year. The VIN is the only real way to tell, everything else in the car could have been changed.

 

The guy asked what rear end he had......how can you fake a rpo code...the vin is on the same sticker...also if someone made a new sticker or tampered with it youd beable to tell.
Lastly running the vin number only tells him the yr of the car...its not ganna tell him anything else. If it is a 84 it cant be an iroc,,,,if its a 85 then you have to look at the rpo's.
