good 305 cam

I need to put some more power into my 305 for it`s last summer so I need to know what would be a good cam for my combo

Specs:

305 LG4 stock bottem end
305 heads Stock with bowl job and gasket matched w/1.94 in
Edelbrock Perfomer EGR intake
Q-jet or Holley 600
Headers
Flowmaster muffler
K&N 14X3 filter

My Zed is a 5 spd w/3:23 posi

I was looking at the 265DEH Comp cam

Dur: 265/269 in/ex @.050 211/221 in/ex
Lift .442/.465 in/ex
LSA 110

will this cam work or will I have to modd the heads for the extra lift?

You'll be on the ragged edge of your lift limit, so I'd go one step smaller. The Comp XE256 will work nicely.

I use the Crane PowerMax 260 (.427 and .454) and it is excellent, even in -20* Celsius weather. Lots of grunt right up to 5000 rpm.

I checked out the 256H and it looks like a nice cam.

They have a dyno sheat that shows a 356sbc made 330hp and 411 ft lbs

modds where:

perfomer intake
Dart S/R heads
Holley carb
1 5/8 headers

So I`m guessing around 250 hp and about 300 ft lbs with my 305?

Yes it does need a roller cam.

He should phone Comp or Crane at their 1-800 number to get their advice on it.

What's wrong with a used LT1 cam?

Maybe he's got too many mods for that, but I know I put one in my 88 Camaro and it definately woke her up.

Just throwing that out there

Im going to install the ZZ4 cam in my LB9. Im actualy doing it right now(types with greese coverd hands)
The ZZ4 specs are... damn it.. I always forget, but its better then the 2 cams listed here. Ill find the specs or someone will post them. I will probably have to due some PROM tuning, but I should be able to get by for a bit till I start to really get into the whole prom tuning deal. Im also going with a set of ported stock heads with stiffer valvesprings, and perhaps I might go wtih a 1.94 intake valve. The ZZ4 cam is pretty cheap, you can get them from engine builders who buy the ZZ4 and rip the cam out for more power. The ZZ4 is a great cam for the 305, and its a roller cam.

Sure, LT1 cams are a good buy and seemingly plentiful. Just be prepared to run an electric fuel pump on a carbed engine if the cam has no fuel pump lobe.

anyone got any good links on cams "with prices" or seen any sweet deals on roller cams for my carbed lg4.

Im still debating whether i sould run a elec fuel pump for the lt1 cam as i seen these for cheaper. Im ganna be getting a new carb and intake so i guess a fuel pump wouldnt be too much more would it??? What psi should i be running on it???
