just got my 350 block!

I just picked up my bare 350.....120$ pretty sweet deal

It's a 1970-76 350ci 2 Bolt Main

Pretty clean, bores are 4.03 and just need to be honed not a big deal, the block itself is clean, looks good.

I have no idea if I should magnaflux it....it "looks" good, no rust, the inside is clean, minimal wear, it's oiled for the winter and bagged.

Just gotta start my search for parts and maybe in summer I can start building up the bottom end.

Any ideas welcome....I don't know if magnafluxing is a "must", this will be my first engine build....I'm just trying to learn, so I figured why not buy a block and start from scratch

Oh yea, on the rear of the block, on the opposite side of the iden code there is T3 in big letters and below it is CONV2

The website I went to says that side is the date the block was cast, or something but it doesn't seem to work out. I don't have an engine stand yet (don't really need one till I start to build it anyways) and it's bagged so it's hard to see all of the block and look around for the all stamps.....anyone know what CONV2 means?

Edit: While I'm here I might as well get all my "idiot" questions out of the way. Does anyone know of a website that lists EVERY part I'm gonna need to address when building this 350 up, I mean I know the general parts, but is there a list anywhere telling exactly EVERY part I'm gonna need to buy, from the obvious ones like a crankshaft to the not so obvious ones that may be nothing more then a little cap or seal. I want to sorta make myself a part checklist, this way I can look at the list knowing EVERY part I have to go find/buy and as I get them I can cross them off.

Sounds like a good candidate for a +.040 piston, 3.875 stroke, 5.85" rod, monster

I'd definately have it checked by a reputible shop for any cracks or abnormal areas, especially if you are looking to make a greedy amount of power with it.

You looking to do a 4 bolt main conversion or anything like that? Have fun!

It's more a learning experience then anything, I'll be looking to get about 300RWHP out of it, but nothing really serious. I've decided not to stroke because of the extra cost and rod issues involved.

It's already bored over .03 and ready to be built so why not just build it like that. I got it for 120$ so it was a steal. I'll have my buddy check it out, how much is magnafluxing? Like 100$?

I'm gonna go with a straight forward build, 3.48 stroke, 5.7" rods, I'm going to try and get most of my HP from compression and cam, as long as I can make it run on pump gas I'm gonna put the compression as high as it takes to get 300RWHP, hopefully I'll only have to go to like 10.5:1....I'll probably use a monster cam also, like .600 lift, lol.....mostly I just wanna learn to build engines....

I hate to be like this but you are not going to just stop at 300hp. I bought a 350 for a "350hp" buildup but I have since ditched that idea and am going for a ***** to the wall motor. I am going to be running forged internals, with alunimum heads and then eventually I am going to be running a blower with a Nozzle kit looking for 9's out of my street machine. It is a bug once you get bit you will never stop. Nothing is ever enough I promise.

Thats cool you should shop around to see how much more a 383 kit will cost I wanted to make a 350 but I had to bore it out so I was like what the hell I`m doing a 383 I`m not sure if my block had to be moded for the crank I`ll ask my guy and then tell you I`m useing 5.7 rods. thats if you want to go 383 and yes magnaflux is a must I paid $80 to get mine done its better to find out if the block has a crack now then later
